Is there a story behind your Esqueleta series? Pardon if you have been asked this before.

Actually, no one has ever really asked me that before :)

My esqueletas were pretty obviously inspired by Dia de los Muertos, Catrinas, and sugar skulls. I also refer to the series as Las Calaveras. I have this weird fascination with the day of the dead and its customs, especially since I have a weirder fascination with skeletons :)

Eleana is a reflection of myself and the name reserved for my future daughter (n_n). Helena is named after Helena Bonham Carter (cause she’s awesome and I love her). Ximena is technically named after the singer Ximena Sariñana because I found her music and her name very beautiful.

Background stories for each girl are going to be a secret for now :) I’m thinking about making a short little comic series about them so I can share their personalities with you guys.

I’m also keeping it a secret whether or not they’re normal girls wearing skeleton make up, or if those are their legitimate faces and bodies, no make up or tattoos involved.

I thought it would be more whimsical to leave that interpretation up to the viewer :)
